Do kids need their own ticket? Thanks!

    • February 7, 2012

Kids ages 0 to 5 are free. Kids 6 to 12 have steeply discounted tickets and will be available individually at the end of this week.

Why is restrooms listed as if it were an amenity provided to only VIP ticket holders?

    • March 14, 2012

Very good question! VIP restrooms are actual restrooms in the fire house building which is much different than the portable toilets used for the festival. We didn’t think that was a big deal until people mentioned that they would pay the VIP price to completely avoid a portable toilet.

Do History San Jose members get free access? Or is this a non-HSJ sponsored event so everyone needs to pay regardless?

    • March 14, 2012

Hi gb. Let me check with History San Jose. There was some talk about doing this earlier but I’m not sure where it is.

      • April 6, 2012

Yes, we are History San Jose members, too, and I have held off purchasing advance tickets because I don’t know if there will be a discount for members. Further, will the gate close to the parking lot on Senter Road be open for this event? It would be very nice not to have to risk taking my children on Phelan in the double stroller. It’s just not safe for small children.

And seriously, you’re going to disallow access to proper restrooms unless people pay extra?

      • April 7, 2012

Just requested information from the head of History San Jose about any possible discounts. So far we haven’t heard of any.

Regarding the north gate, we are concerned that opening a second, substantially smaller entrance might cause some unintended problems. According to current ticket sales, we are concerned that crowds will find the north gate to be frustrating. We will review our decision with History San Jose regarding this opening. It did come up in a meeting and we are still thinking about it.

We expect thousands of people to attend the Taco Festival. To provide adequate restroom facilities, we are providing a mix of 35 standard and accessible portable restrooms with hand washing sinks in two separate areas of the park. The restrooms in the VIP area are small and only accessible by two flights of stairs or a 3/4 size elevator. With thousands of people attending, opening this restroom facility to the general public would have some severe unintended consequences. It would be very difficult to keep this restroom sanitary under those conditions. We didn’t think about promoting VIP admission as having “real restrooms” until someone else mentioned this as a plus. We just figured that if someone was paying $100 for the privilege — the onus was on us to make sure it was worth it.

Any response from History San jose on this?

      • April 13, 2012

We received an email yesterday that History San Jose will set up a poster at the entrance gate tomorrow offering a 50% discount for members. We will honor this discount. Please show proof of membership.

Here is the post on their website:
        http://www.historysanjose.org/wp/events/san-jose-taco-festival/

It should be noted that we expect to sell out tomorrow. If you are a History San Jose member, I would encourage you to arrive early! We’ve sold 2,500 tickets already and only have capacity for about 3,500 more people.

The Vip tickets indicate that it includes an all you can eat menu for 2…..is this menu a separate type of menu?

And for open bar? what does that include? is there a specific time for this

    • March 29, 2012

Hi Janel. The VIP tickets include all you can eat tacos from the seven trucks located directly adjacent to the VIP area. Tacos will be delivered to the VIP area directly. Open bar includes unlimited beer and wine. VIP space is open all day. Hopefully this helps!

let me get this straight. It costs 7 bucks to get in and eat $2 tacos? Good luck with that plan!

    • March 29, 2012

The San Jose Taco Festival of Innovation is not just a food truck meetup. In addition to the $2 taco price point (which is a much less expensive than the prices these gourmet food trucks typically charge), the Taco Festival includes awesome entertainment such as Concert in the Park, Pro Wrestling Revolution’s Lucha Libre, & the first ever US Air Accordion Championships. On top of that, we are hosting an awesome Kid’s Camp with face painting, balloons, slides, & bounce houses. History Park itself is an attraction that typically costs $8 to visit by itself. And a huge percentage of revenues are going to support a great non-profit, E-Soccer (a free inclusive soccer program for typical and special needs kids).

Almost every free street festival has subpar and extremely overpriced food and drinks. You could easily blow $6 just to buy two bottles of water at these types of events. At the taco festival, food will be relatively inexpensive — and super delicious. Remember, each truck is competing for your vote. They want to make you happy.

Once you add in the overall costs — we think the value proposition will be compelling. I think that is why we’ve seen tickets going like hot…tacos.

We hope you would consider attending the Taco Festival.

Hello, i bought ticket at the Willow Glen Moveable Feast last week but your credit card system was down so I gave you guys my credit card information. I have not seen an email or confirmation that my purchase went through. Do I need to purchase it again?

    • April 3, 2012

Hi Michelle. We forgot to ask for one piece of information needed to process your credit card. We will send another reminder email. Thanks for the question!

I am hoping this is a huge success. Will other parts of the park be open like a normal day? We may have family come into town who wanted to see the park and historic buildings. Also, should be bring chairs and seating for our small herd we are bringing with us? Can’t wait.

    • April 3, 2012

Hi Tiffany! You can definitely bring chairs to the Taco Festival. Due to the expected amount of people at the event, the individual buildings in the park will be closed. Plenty of things to do between the Air Accordion Battle, Taco Competition, Concert in the Park, Kids Camp, and Lucha Libre!

After hearing about food truck gatherings in SF and being very jealous that I could never go to these gatherings, I can’t wait to check this out! Oh! And I gotta support a fellow Royal :)

    April 6, 2012

Where can we buy the tickets? We don’t have a credit card.

    • April 6, 2012

You can purchase tickets with cash at any Moveable Feast location. For these locations, please visit http://mvblfeast.com. You can also pay in cash at the door.

    April 6, 2012

How much will it cost at the door w/o presale tix?

    • April 6, 2012

$10 for adults and $4 for kids. We do highly encourage pre-paying since the purchase lines at the gate may be long.

    • April 6, 2012

Forgot to mention that kids 5 and under are free.

    April 6, 2012

Is there a designated parking lot for this event? If so, how much for parking?

    • April 7, 2012

Hi Ray. There are multiple parking lots within walking distance to History Park. The Phelan Avenue lot is the closest and costs $6. Some other parking areas are free. Some are as high as $10 for Happy Hollow (which is next door).

I purchased early bird tickets and never received them. Is there somewhere I can print them?

    • April 8, 2012

Hi Kristina. Please email us at tacos@mvblfeast.com with your first and last name and email. We can resend the confirmation email with the tickets attachment.

    • April 8, 2012

Hi Kristina. We went ahead and found an early bird ticket purchase by “Kristina” on February 29th. Just resent the confirmation email with the tickets. Please let us know if you did not receive it at tacos@mvblfeast.com.

Is the VIP $100 ticket price per person or $100 for two people?

    • April 8, 2012

Hi Robin! The current VIP price of $100 is per person. We did offer a $150 2x VIP for two people two months ago but that deal is no longer available. The VIP package is a pretty sweet deal. Tacos are delivered by wait staff to you from a selection of the trucks along with an open bar, parking, special restrooms, shaded seating, and more!

I purchased 4 tickets on March 2nd and after hearing from my sister that I need to print the tickets I realized I never received anything confirming the purchase or the tickets. Payment did go through my bank though. Will I need to puchase them again?

Is this being looked into because I have had had a reply back all it says is “your comment is awaiting moderation” Is there someone I can contact?

    • April 8, 2012

Hi Nicole. Please email tacos@mvblfeast with your first and last name and email. We can resend the confirmation email with the tickets. Sorry for the inconvenience. In some rare circumstances, emails can be accidentally treated as spam.

    • April 8, 2012

Hi Nicole. We looked into our records and saw a purchase from “Nicole” on March 9th and February 29th. We decided to resend the confirmation email for both of those purchases. Please let us know if you received a confirmation email.

        April 8, 2012

I just received the email, thank you. Is it just one ticket for the “family 4 pack”?

      • April 8, 2012

Correct. We had to do it that way to keep the Eventbrite fees low for everyone.

  18. April 8, 2012

hi, is there anyway i can buy the tacofestival ticket on the day of at the history park?

    • April 8, 2012

Hi Ngoc! Yes tickets will be available for purchase at the gate with cash or credit card. However, we are encouraging people to pre-purchase tickets online to avoid long lines on Saturday.

I love south bay area events, but to charge admission then again for the food is no bargain. There are other events I would rather see for free and bring my own food. This is a fact of how to enjoy your time and this
great area we call home. I would love to see this event, and to patronize our own micro economy to support
our Latin brothers and sisters on the east side. But a hefty admission fee I will avoid. I’ll make my own tacos
    at home……thank you !!

    • April 11, 2012

We understand and wish we could have done this as a free event (we continue to offer over 200 free events in San Jose each year).

As you can probably tell, most of the large free festivals in San Jose have closed up shop permanently. America’s Festival (4th of July) is gone. Tapestry in Talent closed down and now back as an admission event. Jazz Festival now charges admission. The reality is that it is too expensive to hold free festivals in San Jose without huge subsidies from the City. Now that the City is broke — there is no money to be handed out. Even Christmas in the Park is in danger because of the cost of holding no admission public events.

We hope to make the San Jose Taco Festival of Innovation a landmark event held yearly in San Jose!

    April 11, 2012

will there be a cost for parking?
And do the have handycap parking?

    • April 12, 2012

Hi Lisha. Parking in the area varies in cost from free to $10. We are almost finished with the parking guide and will publish that by 5 pm today. I can tell you that several lots in the area allow free parking but we can’t disclose them beforehand. Hint hint.

    • April 12, 2012

Forgot to mention that all parking lots have handicapped parking.

    April 13, 2012

When you purchase the tickets online do you need to print them out? I hope not because I dont have a printer.

    • April 13, 2012

      Hi Kristina,

Yes, we encourage you to print them out. You can also load up the document on your smartphone for display at the entrance. Lastly, we can look your ticket info up if both those options fail. Of course, we highly recommend the first so we can avoid long lines at the event entrance.

  22. April 13, 2012

Are there any restrooms that are available for handicapped persons? How about handicapped parking?

    • April 13, 2012

There will be accessible restrooms and some free handicapped parking right at the entrance of the festival. Each of the nearby parking lots have handicapped parking as well.

  23. Sandra #
    April 13, 2012

Even if we buy the tickets do we still have to pay for each taco individually?

    • April 13, 2012

Correct. Tickets are only for admission to the event. The only tickets that include tacos are the VIP tickets.
